Sarnia Production Site

On December 17, 2025, INEOS Styrolution is announced the safe and complete decommissioning and closure of its Sarnia site, marking the end of more than eight decades of industrial and community history.

The decision to permanently close the Sarnia facility was shared in October 2024, and since then, INEOS Styrolution has worked diligently to ensure that all activities were completed safely and responsibly. The health and safety of our employees, our neighbours, and the environment have remained our highest priorities throughout this process.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Sarnia community for its patience, understanding, and support during this transition. The site has been an integral part of the Sarnia community since 1943, when it first began operations as part of Canada’s wartime manufacturing effort. Over the years, it evolved through generations of innovation and ownership, from Canadian Polymer and Polysar Ltd. to NOVA Chemicals and ultimately INEOS Styrolution.

Through its 81 years of operation, the site and its people have contributed significantly to the local economy, community growth, and Canada’s chemical manufacturing legacy. This proud history reflects the skill, dedication, and resilience of the employees who worked here, and the partnership of the community that supported them.

While the closure of the Sarnia site marks the end of an important chapter, INEOS Styrolution remains deeply appreciative of the men and women who built and sustained this operation over the decades. We thank every employee, past and present, for their commitment, professionalism, and contribution.

To the Sarnia community, we offer our heartfelt thanks. It has been our privilege to be part of this city’s industrial and social fabric for more than 80 years.
